VILLA ABADI'S GUIDE TO BALI
Please bear with us whilst we pull together the wealth of information that we have collected since we purchased Villa Abadi and set it our clearly for the benefit of our friends and guests. We've made a start with some of our favourite restaurants but we'll soon be adding lots more content - from tourist attractions to shows, secret beaches to off the beaten track personal favorite hideaways. We hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!
RESTAURANTS
There are many dining options within 20 minutes of the villa. Local Indonesian food can be found everywhere. A selection of our favorite places include the following in approximate price order, lowest first. Click the logo for the restaurants own website and the map for a Google Maps precise location.
Echo beach $$ (map)
Echo Beach restaurant, as the name suggests, is located on Echo Beach, a 20 minute drive from the Villa. It has extensive indoor and outside seating located right on the beach and elevated above the rolling waves that are very popular with surfers. It has a good selection of casual Asian and western food including a BBQ fish and meat selection. One of our favorite casual lunch spots. Try the Canggu fried chicken, tuna steak or homemade beef pie. Jln Pura Batu Mejan, Canggu, Bali 80361, +62 (0) 361 7474604 http://www.echobeachhouse.com/food.html |
Plumbers Arms $$ (map)
This is a British style pub in the village of Keraboken which is a 20 minute drive from the villa. It serves all the usual British food including fish and chips, pies as well as a large selection of sandwiches, wines and beers. Located a couple of doors along from Bali Buda and Kunti III. Our recommendations are the Sunday roast, the Ploughman's Lunch or the Shepherds pie! Jln Raya Banjar Anyar No. 8 Kerobokan Badung, Bali, +62 (0) 361 7449132 http://www.theplumbersarms.com/index.php/our-food.html |
Kunti III $$ (map)
Located in Kerobokan, 20 minutes from the villa, this small but perfectly formed Sushi and Japanese food restaurant serves the best sushi in Bali at very reasonable prices. Their Sushi sets are particularly good. They also have a takeaway and delivery service. Located between Bali Buda and the Plumbers Arms. Jln Raya Banjar Anyar No. 25 Kerobokan, Bali, +62 (0) 361 8475321http://www.kuntirestaurant.baliklik.com/index.html |
Warisan $$$ (map)
Also known for it's lovely furniture shop (several Villa Abadi peices come from here) Warisan has a nice casual restaurant outside but under cover around 3 sides of a central coutyard that provides a nice setting for casual lunches and slightly more formal evening meals. Great value lunch menu - perhaps nearer to $$ than $$$ - our favourites are the gratinated shitake salad, the fish stew and gnocchi with gorgonzola. In the evening their menu includes a good selection of very well prepared and presented dishes - we've dined their many times and have always had very good food. Recommendations from the evening menu include "drunken" lobster ravioli, Barramundi fillet and chicken roll stuffed with goats cheese and wrapped in Bresaola - yum! Jl. Raya Kerobokan No. 38, Br Taman, Kuta, Bali, +62 (0) 361 731175 http://www.warisanrestaurant.com/index.php |
Canggu Club $$$ (map)
The Canngu club is a beautiful colonial style building situated in large grounds based in the village of Canggu around 15 minutes from the villa and has a large swimming pool, gym and spa. Daily and weekly memberships are available but are not required for the casual restaurant overlooking the grounds serving a variety of cuisines. Jln Pantai Berawa. Banjar Tegal Gundul, Canggu, Bali 80361, +62 (0) 361 8483939 http://www.cangguclub.com |
Prana $$$ (map)
Prana is just across the road from Bali Deli in Seminyak, a great place for pre or post shopping lunch stop. Prana has a fairly small but nicely formed lunch menu consisting of Indonisien, Thai and western cuisine. Try the tapas sharing plate or the beef sandwich with haloumi cheese and red onion relish washed down with the Jacob's Creek Shiraz Cabinet if your budget stretches to it. Also has a spa and gift shop where several peices from Villa Abadi have been sourced. Jalan Kunti 118x, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia Prana on TripAdvisor |
Sarong $$$ (map)
Sarong is a lovely restaurant serving a wide selection of Asian cuisine from probably the longest menu in Bali! Reservations are highly recommended as it is a popular restaurant. Also have gluten free, dairy free and nut free menus.

Mama San $$$ (map)
This great casual dining restaurant in one of our absolute favorites. It's owned by Will Meyrick, the same gastro star that owns and runs Sarong and specializes in Asian flavors. Two things stand out about Mama San, firstly the entire "Asian Bites" menu(!) and secondly, the great value, with dishes starting at around US$5 and peaking at around US$15++. Our top recommendations are the Pork & Prawn Siew Mai and Snapper Dumplings - you simply cannot afford to miss these, but the Char Sui Pork, Stir Fried Prawn with Chilli Jam and the Banana Cake are also very good indeed.

Sardine $$$$ (map)
Sardine is a charming restaurant located in a large bale overlooking paddy fields in Kerobokan. As the name suggests the menu is fish focused but they also serve a selection of other classics such as steak. Metis and Sardine are located together on opposite sides of the road.

Alila Villas Soori $$$$ (map)
This 5 star villa/hotel development is a ten minute drive from the villa through local villages and paddy fields. The hotel has a seafront restaurant serving a good selection of regional Indonesian and international food as well as a lovely bar overlooking the sea. It is a nice place to enjoy lunch or evening cocktails or a special meal. Mention Villa Abadi to get 20% off restaurant food and spa treatments.

Metis $$$$ (map)
Metis is beautifully situated overlooking rice paddies around 30 minutes from the villa. It serves a variety of Asian inspired dishes. Metis and Sardine are located together on opposite sides of the road. Metis is included here as they do have some very nice dishes - the Pan Fried Foie Gras with Prawn Tortellini, the Zucchini Flower Tempura and the Fine de Claire oysters are examples, but we feel that it's is rather expensive for what it is.

What about restaurants further away?
We will include restaurants that are further away from Villa Abadi but, in our opinion, deserve a mention for good food, value, service or location (in approximate price order, lowest first):
Bridges, Ubud $$$ (map)
Lovely restaurant, set on multiple levels of the bank of the Campuhan river with views of the 2 river bridges (old & new), is a nice peaceful place to sample some fine casual food after the throng of Ubuds markets and streets. The caramelized Laksa Prawn could have done with a little more kick, but the combination of flavors worked really well. Around the table we had Thai Style Barramundi, Salmon coated in Pumpkin, Roasted Baby Chicken and Fettuccini with Pesto, all of which were well prepared and tasty. The Cointreau mousse with meringue and blueberry cream was amazing with the Tamarillo Apple Crumble following close behind.

Cafe Lotus, Ubud $$ (map)
Cafe Lotus is right in the heart of Ubud and, as the name suggests, it's located right on the edge of the lotus pond belonging to Pura (temple) Sarawati. It's covered terrace is a great place to take light lunch or a snack whilst looking out onto the lotus pond and temple beyond. Serves a good selection of Indonesian and Asian favorites such as Nasi/Mie Goreng, Sambal Udang, Sate and Makanan Ringan (or Bali Tapas) etc with a few western dishes as well. Our favorites include the Red Prawn & Shrimp Curry and the Nasi Goreng.
